My name is Adam and I live in Florida. After countless hours looking for a solution to my gardening issues I decided to build my own “Screenhouse”.
If you’ve stumbled across my blog then you too are probably looking for DIY build your own screen-house greenhouse. As you likely already know, Florida is a great place to grow your own food, however it’s also a great place for bugs and pests to thrive. I thought, I guess I’ll build a greenhouse, but upon further research found that greenhouses are tricky due to heat issues. I determined that a screen-house would be the optimal solution for my situation.
I didn’t want to spend a fortune nor setup a permanent greenhouse installation. I wanted to avoid climate control systems and to provide an environment that was the most flexible for growing various types of food year round. My fist project to be featured here is my home made (DIY) hoop house using PVC pipes, pressure treated lumber, and HDPE(UV resistant plastic) insect netting/screen. I will try to provide as much detail as possible including materials lists and pricing. This is something a couple people can put together in a day or two and makes a great weekend project.
Future goals of this blog include:
- Screen-house and Florida planting and gardening tips.
- Discussion of additional DIY build your own screen-house plans from the web.
- Engineer certified screen-house plans for permitting purposes.
- Featuring our viewers home made Florida screen-houses and plans.
